Nine Spaces to A Crystal

Nine Spaces To A Crystal (9SC) is a new film/video collective that was started by three undergraduates in the fall of 2001 in order to bring together students who appreciate the magic and complexity of film, video, and new media. Since there haven't been many student groups dedicated to examining and exploring the time arts genre, 9SC felt that a collective at SAIC was overdue.

After having had two screenings in Michigan 1311 in the fall, 9SC hopes to expand student work with more exposure and diversity. In the future the group hopes to produce and direct a film or video every year, with a new director each time.

The group has already scripted, cast, and started production on a 30-minute film which will be shot on 16 mm color film. During the spring semester 9SC will be in post-production until early May, after which they plan on screening the film at various locations in Chicago as well as sending it off to festivals.

So, where's all the money coming from to fund 9SC's projects?

Last semester 9SC went to SAIC student government to propose a request for monetary support to produce their film. By unanimous decision they were granted $1,600 for the film and post-production.

9SC meets every Thursday afternoon in Michigan 1304 at 4:15 to discuss and screen student work, as well as to talk about new advances in these time-based arts like the "digital bridge."

For more information on how to get involved with 9SC, send an email to [email protected] or [email protected].
